DataScientia Coordinator Fausto Giunchiglia Delivered “The Data Driven University” Lecture at Zhuhai College
As part of the ongoing international collaboration between the DataScientia Initiative and Zhuhai College of Science and Technology (ZCST), DataScientia Initiative Coordinator Prof. Fausto Giunchiglia delivered a lecture on “The Data Driven University” on 4 September 2026.
The lecture was part of the 50th ZCST Academic Lecture Series, which brings together academic experts to promote knowledge exchange, strengthen research capacity, broaden students’ and faculty members’ academic perspectives, and foster international collaboration.
From University Data to Data-Driven Universities
During the lecture, Prof. Giunchiglia explored the role of knowledge graphs in building data-driven universities. The presentation addressed how university data can be effectively governed, how mechanisms for establishing trust in data can be developed, and how the value contained in institutional data can be discovered and exploited to support coherent digital services.
These topics are closely connected to the broader vision of DataScientia, which promotes person-centric and AI-enabled approaches for managing, sharing, understanding, and making meaningful use of data.
The lecture brought together faculty members, students, and members of the wider university community interested in artificial intelligence, knowledge representation, data governance, and the transformation of universities through data.

Strengthening the DataScientia–ZCST Collaboration
Zhuhai College of Science and Technology is a DataScientia partner, with the collaboration spanning several areas of activity, including Artificial Intelligence education, research, and international academic exchange.
The collaboration is further supported by the International Joint Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence and Society, established at Zhuhai College. The joint activities provide a framework for strengthening cooperation between researchers and educators in Italy and China, while creating opportunities for knowledge exchange, joint research, and the development of AI-oriented educational initiatives.
The partnership reflects the shared commitment of DataScientia and ZCST to advancing AI education and research, while exploring new approaches to the role of data, knowledge, and artificial intelligence in modern universities.
Prof. Giunchiglia’s lecture represents another step in the continued development of the DataScientia–ZCST partnership, connecting education, artificial intelligence, knowledge representation, and data governance within a shared international framework.
